MY FAVOURITE THINGS ABOUT MANCHESTER | GEORGIE

MY FAVOURITE THINGS ABOUT MANCHESTER

Hi everyone and welcome back to our blog Until Wednesday. It's Georgie back again this week with another post and today I wanted to do something that is a bit more personal. Yesterday was sadly the one year anniversary of the devastating Manchester bombing attack at Ariana Grande's concert at the Manchester Arena.

I moved to Manchester in September last year for university and I am so glad I did. I have come to have a huge love for the city and it was the best decision for me to move there. Yesterday, I attended the sing-along held at Albert Square in Manchester as a memorial service for the 22 people who were killed last year.

This event was amazing and the spirit of the city was so uplifting. I think it was great how so many people turned up to the event as a united group to remember the tragedy.

As I said, I have grown a huge love for the city and I feel so lucky to have lived in Manchester for this past year. Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to write a post dedicated to some of my favorite things about Manchester including where I like to go out or to have a catch up with friends.

MY FAVOURITE NIGHTCLUBS:

The Venue

At the moment, The Venue is my favorite place to go out in Manchester. It doesn't get too busy however there is still a great atmosphere in the club. The bouncers are all great and look after everyone and I must say that the free bar on Wednesday is great haha. I usually go on a Wednesday as they play music that is so up my street including The Beatles, The Clash, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Oasis and loads more classics.

42nd Street

A close favorite is 42nd Street, or as most people call it 42s. I love the posters that cover the walls of some of the most iconic bands in the world.  I love going on a Tuesday as it has a great student based crowd. Similarly to The Venue, it plays great music with some more modern indie tunes as well.

MY FAVOURITE SPOT IN MANCHESTER:

Northern Quarter

If you didn't know, the Northern Quarter is an area of Manchester just around the corner of Picadilly Gardens. I love the northern quarter as it feels like a creative space with vinyl shops, quirky cafes, pubs and plenty of vintage shops. I go here quite a lot just to have a look around as it has a really cool vibe.

MY FAVOURITE CAFES:

My two favorite cafes are in the Northern Quarter and I love going here for a hot drink and a catch up with friends or bring one of my family members if they come to visit.

Just Between Friends

If you follow me on Instagram (@georgiehardyy)  you might have seen me post photos of this cafe recently. It is very aesthetically pleasing if you are as sad as me and like to take photos of everything you eat. The staff is really friendly and the cafe feels really chilled out. They also have a really cute outdoor area with fairy lights for when it's a bit warmer outside.

Fig and Sparrow

This is another cafĂ© where the staff is really helpful and the drinks are really good too. If you are dairy-free like me or Vegan they have some really yummy options for drinks and cakes which I would recommend but they mainly do normal drinks for everyone else too if you don't have dietary requirements. Another great spot to chill with friends with the cool interior.

THE MUSIC SCENE:

I am a huge lover of music (in particular Rock and Roll or Indie) so I feel that Manchester has been a great city for me to move to. I love how passionate people are about music here and how people are really proud of their bands that started in Manchester such as The Stone Roses, Oasis and Happy Mondays for example.

BARS I LIKE:

Soup Kitchen

This is a bar in Manchester which is great for a chilled drink with friends. This is based in the Northern Quarter and also hosts events on certain nights with good music.

Cloud 23

If you are someone who likes to get dressed up, splash the cash on a cocktail and get some good Instagram photos, you will love Cloud 23 based in Deansgate. At one of the highest points in Manchester, it has an amazing view of the city. I went at night time and the lit up city looked amazing!

Font

The font is a great bar if you like a cheap cocktail unlike Cloud 23. I and my friends have been a few times and you can get a cocktail from as little as £2, which is great from when you're a bit skint, which is me most of the time.

FUN THINGS TO DO:

Junkyard Mini Golf

I tried this for the first time with a couple of my friends the other week and it was pretty good fun. They have three indoor golf courses to choose from so we picked the junkyard one and it was so cool. I'm embarrassed to say I accidentally hit one of the golf balls off a member of staff but thankfully he took it well hahaha. It's a good idea for if you and your mates are bored on a night time.

Black Dog Ballroom Bowling

I'm not very good at Bowling however it's a good laugh and it's so cheap with student discount. Once again, it's a good idea if you are bored on a night time and don't fancy going out as it's open until 2 am.

SHOPS I LIKE IN MANCHESTER:

Affleck's

If you haven't been already and visit Manchester, definitely check it out. It is an indoor market in the Northern Quarter with independent stalls, small shops, and boutiques that all operate within one building. I feel like it's going back in time to the 80s with the band posters and arcade games around the building. My favorite shop in Afflecks that I go to a lot is a little shop on the first floor which sells band posters and badges. I have built up quite the badge collection from here and put them all on a vintage denim jacket I have and I have a Beatles, Oasis and The Clash poster from here.

Vinyl Revival

This is a shop in Northern Quarter (shocker) which mainly sells vinyl. One of my favorite things to do is look through records. This shop also has some really cool poster illustrations, band t-shirts and other band merchandise. I do also love Picadilly records.

Overall, I just love Manchester as a city, the music, and the people. I would definitely recommend it to people thinking about moving here and I have loved my first year living here. It has such a great spirit and there is always something to do. I know there are probably loads of places I'm not aware of still and I can't wait for my second year here.

Once again, I just want to say rest in peace and a big love for the victims or the Manchester attack last year.

Thank you so much again for returning to Until Wednesday. If you haven't already, make sure you check out Erin's post on the Met Gala from last week and I will be back in a couple of weeks for another post.

The Met Gala 2018 | Erin

The Met Gala is quite possibly THE biggest night in Fashion. It's the perfect excuse for all the celebs to dress up in crazy outfits, following a theme and for everyone at home to become professional fashion critics (even when we are mostly all sat at home in a pair of joggers and t-shirt).

With the theme being 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, on the whole, they didn't disappoint. The men's attempt however wasn't as great. I did manage to pick out a good handful of looks that matched the occasion.

Versace and Dolce and Gabbana ran the whole event for me.With most of my favourite looks being some of their showstopping pieces.
The Men:
Cole wears Thom Browne
Nick wears Dolce and Gabbana

Cole and Nick both went for the black suit with the little details that fit with the theme. I loved these two looks because of how classic they look on each of the but also because of the fact that they weren't just straight up, plain black suits. Both outfits had something about them.
Darren wears Dolce and Gabbana
Chadwick wears Versace
Migos wear Versace

These three are looks! So in tune with the theme and just classic Met Gala outfits.I love how out there they are but also how well suited and designed each piece is to the body wearing it. Chadwick's outfit was definitely my favourite out of all the men, it fits with the theme so well. The gold detailing and gold shoes just complete the whole look.

Jared wears Gucci
Donald wears Gucci

My final two fave menswear looks of the night come from Donald Glover and Jared Leto, looking like the king that he is. Any man who can pull off a purple suit is in my good books and with Donald being one of the coolest men, he already looks amazing for me. The gold detailing on the back of his blazer brings total class to the theme. I loved that Jared and Lana del Rey were so coordinated on the carpet together. His whole outfit is just incredible.

My Top 10 Women's Picks:

With the women's looks, there were a lot that were stunning but ones that I just didn't think really went with the whole theme of the night. The other extreme was that they were so over the top it looked more like fancy dress. There was a lot of looks to choose from so I've narrowed it down to my personal top 10.
Rihanna wears custom Mason Margiela by John Galliano
Cardi wears Moschino

These two ladies never failed to impress, both wearing amazing pieces and working them so well. Both Rihanna and Cardi B went for the headpiece and the encrusted dresses with a combination of jewels and diamonds. They are absolute showstoppers but the dresses themselves are gorgeous. They may look over the top but for the Met's, the art of them is what counts and both dresses fit the criteria well.

Zendaya wears Versace
Lili wears H&M

Two very different looks but non the less, amazing. Zendaya's Joan of Arc outfit was just incredible. I loved it! She can usually pull of anything but I think this is her best to date. Lili also went for the silver, chrome looking dress and she looks sophisticated yet so powerful at the same time. Very different from Betty Cooper's style!

Emilia wears Dolce and Gabbana
Lily wears Givenchy

We know she's a queen anyways so its easy for Emilia Clarke to impress at events like these. Her and Lily are both wearing black, both using details to bring the outfits to life. Lily's is more simplistic compared to Emilia where she has gone for a small cross accessory and more extravagance in her headpiece. In Emilia's outfit, she has lots of gold embroidery and a gold crown like headband that just completes her look perfectly. Both look stunning.

Ariana wears Vera Wang
Shawn and Hailey wear Tommy Hilfiger

These two were very delicate looks I felt like which suited both Hailey and Ariana so well. Not only did Hailey have arguably the best date of the night but her dress was so pretty. Although she didn't have crosses all over or something to show the Catholic side like Ariana does on her dress, she definitely fit the heavenly side of the theme. I loved Ariana's dress because of how stunning it is from afar but when you look closely she has painting work all over the top layer.

Blake wears Versace
Kim wears Versace

The Met's are something that these two seem to get right every single year without fail. Kim looks incredible as always but in her gold, tight fitted number with the small cross detailing, I think her outfit was spot on. She looks amazing but at the same time her dress seems so simplistically designed. Blake was my number 1 favourite from this year's Met Gala and I just think she looks insane. Her dress makes her look like a real life princess, probably even queen but it suits her figure so well. The delicate headpiece she is wearing completes the look but I seriously can't get over how stunning she looks. I love everything about the Versace piece she is wearing and it concludes the event for me that both Kim and Blake are  wearing Versace which created the majority of my other favourite looks from the night.

Apologies if the formatting comes up odd when you view this, it finally looks right on mine but knowing my luck it'll mess up as soon as its published! Keep an eye out for Georgie's post next week and I'll see you again the week after. Thank you for reading!

Ariana Grande- No Tears Left To Cry (Get The Look) | Georgie

ARIANA GRANDE NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY GET THE LOOK!

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Until Wednesday. It’s Georgie writing this weeks post and today I will be showing you how to get the look from Ariana Grande’s new video ‘No Tears Left To Cry’. I have been playing this song on repeat at the moment and the video amazing.

This is the first piece of music that she has released since the Manchester attack in May last year and I think the lyrics are really uplifting. I love the Bumble Bee at the end of the video which is a clear tribute to Manchester.

The outfits that she wore in the video are very expensive as I’m sure you can imagine therefore I am going to show you a more affordable way to get an inspired look of what she wore.

OUTFIT 1:

At the beginning of the video, Ariana wears this amazing ruffle dress in a grey-green shade with a black vest on the top. I am loving her new hairstyle too.

This outfit is obviously very extravagant therefore I thought I would create an outfit inspired by what she wears and which is much more comfortable.

I found this green dress which is the perfect shade but you still have the ruffles just like Ariana. I also thought that you could pair this black scrappy bodysuit with this green skirt in the same shade as Ariana's dress if you like to show off your body shape a bit more.

PRODUCTS:

1:  ASOS - COLD SHOULDER RUFFLE MAXI DRESS - £52.20
2: PRETTY LITTLE THING- EMERALD GREEN RUCHED WRAP MINI SKIRT - £12.00
3: URBAN OUTFITTERS - OUT FROM UNDER SEAMLESS RIBBED BUNGEE BODYSUIT £19.00

OUTFIT 2:

You can't really see her outfit that well in this scene but when I've researched her outfit for this section of the music video, she was wearing military trousers with a grey vest and black heeled boots. This shoot is so beautiful with all the little fairy lights.

These finds look very similar to what she wore in the video. For this look, I have chosen this grey square neck bodysuit, with a pair of khaki military style trousers and stiletto heeled lace-up boots. Ariana never goes without a good pair of heels.

PRODUCTS:

1:  TOPSHOP - SQUARE NECK PONTE BODYSUIT - £12.00
2: PRETTY LITTLE THING - KHAKI POCKET DETAIL CARGO TROUSERS - £28.00
3: ASOS - TRUFFLE COLLECTION WIDE FIT STUD HEEL LACE UP BOOTS - £35.00

OUTFIT 3:

I love the futuristic look that Ariana has on the part of the video. She is wearing a nude/ silver slip dress with metallic heels with a platform on the front part of the shoe.

For this look, it is pretty easy to find a dress similar so I've included a few of my finds from online. The exact style of the shoe was a bit harder as I had to look for a platform on just the front with a stiletto style. However, I feel that these are a pretty good find.

PRODUCTS:

1:  REVOLVE - MINI SLIP DRESS - £107.42
2: FOREVER 21 - CRINKLED SATIN MINI SLIP DRESS - £16.00
3: BOOHOO - LILY DOUBLE BOW BACK LUXE SATIN MINI DRESS - $23.00
4: MISGUIDED - SILVER SIMPLE STRAP PLATFORM SANDALS - £30.00

OUTFIT 4:

The part of the video is slightly strange when she basically removes her own face, but she still looks amazing in her cozy attire. Here Ariana is seen wearing a grey bodysuit with knee-high socks.

I found this grey bodysuit which is a very similar style to Ariana's and any grey knee high socks will do the trick to get this look.

PRODUCTS:

1:  BOOHOO- EMILE BASIC HALTER NECK BODYSUIT - £6.00
2:H&M - OVER THE KNEE SOCKS 2 PACK - £6.99

OUTFIT 5:

I am loving the reference to one of her older videos 'Put your hearts up' with the dress and umbrellas. I loved this song back in the day haha. Here Ariana wears a puffy white and black polka dot mini dress with very fine red straps.

I spent ages trying to look for an affordable replica however it was pretty hard. Therefore I decided to find more wearable dresses with an inspired look from Ari's dress. I thought that this polka-dot dress was really quite or you could opt for the dress with slightly larger dots on and the Bardot look like Ariana's.

PRODUCTS:

1:  IN THE STYLE - DORSEY WHITE POLKA DOT PLUNGE MINI DRESS - £26.99
2: BOOHOO - ISLA POLKA DOT BANDEAU BODYCON DRESS £6.00

OUTFIT 6:

At the end of the video, Ariana sits watching the sunrise and a bumblebee flies past her. Ariana's outfit is pretty chilled out here as she wears an oversized bomber jacket with a crop top and tracksuit bottoms.

Once again, I found it really hard to find a match for her jacket, however, I think this one does a decent job and would definitely help you achieve the look. I know that the one she is wearing from Vetements. As for her tracksuit bottoms, I think any pair of plain black ones would do the trick like the pair I found. To finish off this look I found this bracket in a dusty pink shade.

PRODUCTS:

1:  DOLLS KILL - L-2B HOODED BOMBER JACKET - £118.30
2: ASOS - UNDER ARMOUR STORM WOVEN PANTS - £50.00
3: PRETTY LITTLE THING- JILL GREY SLINKY BRALET - £10

Thank you so much again for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post and maybe you've found something you want to buy on your next online shopping spree.

I will be back again in two weeks for another post but Erin will be back next week.

Please make sure to leave a comment as we would love some feedback on our posts or some ideas of what you would like to read next.
